Biography

José Rafael Hernández (1834-1886) was an Argentine poet, politician and journalist. He is best remembered for being the author of Martin Fierro, the most important exponent of gaucho literature. In his honor, every October 10th (the date of his birthday), the Día de la tradición is celebrated.
